Review: The Corsairs debut CD! The Corsairs and I go way, way back - One of them was even my assistant Boatswain back when I used to do Pirate performances! They really embody the true essence of the Pirate melodies and their ballads
consistently hit the mark, ranging from deep and Soulful to light and lively. This album features
some of the great songs that helped to make the Corsairs a household name, like the
"Mingulay Boat Song" and "Morning Glory". |

Review: This was the Corsair's second CD, and I like it a lot. It's got a lot of
their more lighthearted and goofy songs on it (tracks 4-10) as
well as an original by their own Will Teach. The
general tone of this album is less of the traditional work songs of a ship at sea, but more of the
raucous and fun pub songs sung by the sailors once they've reached port and are
busy blowing their hard earned money on rum... |
CD Tracks:

Yo Ho Ho |
Life of a Sailor |

Review: In my humble opinion I think this CD represents
some of the finest work the Corsair's have ever done. The songs
really resound with energy and really allow every member of the
group to shine. My personal favorite song from the album is
"South Australia" but anyone who hears this one can't help but walk away with a favorite of their own.
As an added bonus, the gorgeous ladies of "Queen Anne's Lace"
lend a hand with the album's final song "Minstrel Glass" |

Review: The Corsairs really went all out on this CD. There are some truly incredible arrangements by Alan Dudley, some darn good ones without him, and an amazing 12-page color book by the team's own Humble Will Teach. The entire album flows
seamlessly from one song to the next and really does a great job
of capturing the group's real life friendships. As the group is
fond of saying: "Buy two, they're small!" |

Review: One of the Corsair's more popular albums,
this monster collection ahs a ton of favorites and new material
on it. If you're just starting to get into the Pirate
music genre, I highly recommend this one as a starting point as
it hits so many elements of why these Shanties and songs have
endured for many centuries... |

Review: I had a lot of concerns about this one as it is
a very different approach for this group, but I have to admit
that it really turned out great. From the four-part harmony on
the traditional songs, to having Will playing his uku on his
newest creation the album has a very natural flow to it. For
those who listen to a lot of nautical musical groups, this
album brings a welcome assortment of seldom heard tunes that
are a nice change of pace from the norm.

Review: If you have never heard Gibbon sing, you are
truly missing out. I came across Gibbon back at Scarborough
Faire in the early 1990's, and the man has a voice and an air
about him that really captures an audience, and I'll lay down
money any day that his rendition of "Old Maui" is the best you'll
ever hear. This album is a collection of some of Gibbon's
personal favorites from the last 20 odd years - I highly recommend it!

Cutlass, Cannon and Curves |
PK's Rating:

Released: 2005

Review: The Jolly Roger's latest album, "Cutlass,
Cannon and Curves" is a very cool and hard edged CD full
of some really great music, most of it originally composed
by the group. Most Pirate groups stick to a proven play
list of time-tested songs, but this generally means
that a lot of other great but lesser known music never
gets any attention. The Jolly Rogers should really be
praised for taking the gamble with this CD, especially
given how great it turned out. The songs of this album
hold very true to the essence of what makes a great
Pirate song; Bullish bravado backed by strong melodies
and heartfelt lyrics. I Highly recommend it! |

Review: There's a couple of new original songs on
this CD,l including the hilarious "A Port in Every Girl",
which alone is worth buying this CD for.
It is definitely
worth mentioning, that this is a double CD with a TON of
content on it. So, if you happen a cross it in a used CD
store or someplace grab it before someone else sees it.
Unfortunately, this CD is currently out of circulation but
I have heard reliable scuttlebutt that due to immense popularity
the group is re-mastering the whole thing with the intent
of re-releasing it sometime in late 2006. I missed it the
first time around, but you can bet that I won't repeat that
mistake when the new version comes out! |

Review: A visitor to the web site sent me a copy
of this CD a few weeks ago, and it took me a while to get
around to listening to it. Once I did though, I had to admit
it's pretty cool. The CD is a funny, eclectic collection of
mostly original songs about pirates and their high sea
adventures. Sometimes, The Captain is flying pretty far out
there, but the end result is a little goofy and surreal. I
heard someone refer to it as sort of a Peabody & Sherman
time-machine experience, and I have to agree with that.
Definite keeper! |
